vagrant fails to start esx5.5 guest with fusion provider

mutsuzaki
Hi,

I'm trying to run esx5.5 as a guest. I'm using:

Vagrant: 1.6.3
OS X: 10.9.3
Fusion: 6.0.3

'vagrant up' gets stuck after printing "==> default: Waiting for the VM to finish booting...". Looking at vmware.log, it looks like ESX has crashed.

http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=PpX5JKtp

The same ESX box file works on ubuntu with workstation 10, so I'm guessing this is something specific to mac. Has anybody seen this error before?

Thanks!

Hello,

Can you check this:

2nd, if you do it outside Vagrant, it works? Trying to isolate if this is a vagrant issue or not.

Thanks!

Hi Alvaro,

Thank you for your response. Yes, it works outside Vagrant, as in I can create an esx5.5 vm using fusion from the ISO file.

I tried 'vagrant up' on another mac and it worked, but it consistently crashes on my mac with the same stacktrace. Is there a way to check if I have correct versions of dependencies installed?

By the way, do you happen to know if there is a customer support from HashiCorp for vmware fusion provider? I couldn't find any contact information on this page:

https://www.vagrantup.com/vmware

Thanks!

For the hashicorp question, i think the quickest way to get information is open a ticket on github

https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant/

Back to your issue, If works out of the vagrant, then we can assume something fishy is around there.

Any chance that you can do something like

- backup what ever you need to backup
- un-install vagtrant
- delete .vagrant.d in your home
- ensure there is nothing with vagrant under Applications Library/Applications, etc.

VMTrooper
Can you share how you created a box file for ESXi?

When you said it worked on Workstation 10 on Ubuntu, were you using Vagrant then as well?

Thank you for your responses guys. I reimaged my laptop to use OS X 10.8 (it was originally using 10.9) and I don't have the problem anymore.
