I need help to fix a problem

Simon Lafrenière
Hi,

I'm new here.

I have updated and reinstalled the softwares but now I get problems with boxes in terminal because of some remaining config I could not delete.  It used to work fine.

Can anyone help ? I can pay. I just want to be able to have multiple local dev environments I could run simultaneously and learn how to take the work and put it live online at hosting environment.

I'd need a small intro course to learn how to work well with vagrant, vagrant manager and virtual box. Anyone knows of good online tutorials.

Thank you !

Re: I need help to fix a problem

Alvaro Miranda Aguilera
hello

do this

go to your home directory, you can just type cd

then do

mkdir precise64
cd precise64
vagrant init -m hashicorp/precise64
vagrant up

let me know if that works

if doesnt, share what error you get

from your message, i am not sure you were trying a vagrant file with a public box, so better try this box.

Re: I need help to fix a problem

Simon Lafrenière
Hi,

It looks like it’s working ! Thank you.

Now I need a course to become good with more popular  tools so as to collaborate on projects. I read ansible, docker, packer or else are great but I don’t know how to use them. What is the best learning paths that you know of ? My first step will be a refresher for wordpress local development but I’m interested in anything to help me to become a good collaborator and team member. All suggestion welcomed.

Thank you again !

Re: I need help to fix a problem

Alvaro Miranda Aguilera
Hello

Usually the tool came after of the need.

ie What you want to do, will tell you what tool is the best.

However, if the tool is new, you may have the question where to start.
In the other hand, if you only know 1 tool, then that became your hammer and anything you want to do became a nail.

So, i will say, play, check what other people do, and try to change a bit until you get familiar with the concepts.

Based on the digital ocean wp guide, I  did this once:

For the other tools you did mention, packer is to build VM, that can be vagrant boxes, or just VM to be used later.

once you have a project you are happy with, have a look at packer to create your own custom box.

Of course, feel free to send more questions, and people that use the tools you are after, will eventually reply with suggestions.

If you get stuck on your test, just ask.

Alvaro.

Re: I need help to fix a problem

Simon Lafrenière
Hello Alvaro.

I can now start developing one site locally it seems or maybe more.

I’d like to know how I could start developing more than one site simultaneously.

how to administer mysql and databases

How to upload my sites to a server after I’m done

Would there be a link that you know of that could help me learn how to do these things ?

If I’m not mistaken it would happen by ssh and this is where puppet, ansible, chef or salt become handy.

Thank you !
