HashiCorp Engineer position OPEN in Philadelphia, PA

Key Responsibilities:
HashiCorp DevOps Engineer
  • Responsible for design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.
  • Performs engineering design evaluations.
  • May develop a range of products.
  • Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
  • May require a bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 6 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.
  • Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
  • Responsible for bridging the gap between development and operations teams.
  • Automates all infrastructure build out in AWS utilizing Ansible, Packer, and Terraform.
  • Develops scripts to manage existing infrastructure in non-cloud environments.
  • Documents all operations and infrastructure.
  • Assists with training non-technical personnel.
  • Has in-depth experience knowledge and skills in own discipline.
  • Usually determines own work priorities.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Manager is looking to move his team to the following:
  • Continuous integration and continuous delivery of software
  • Developers can deploy their code into Production
  • Get Operations team out of the mode of having to deploy code

This team has access to an AWS on-site consulting engineer already. They don't need someone like that. Needs someone who has done this before, at a large scale.

Top skills needed for this position:
  1. Amazon Web Services
    1. Needs to have worked full-time on AWS
    2. Needs to have migrated legacy infrastructure over to AWS before
    3. Using TVX and VMware as current legacy infrastructure
  2. Automation & Systems Integration
    1. Needs to have experience with Ansible, Packer and Terraform
    2. Needs to know what tools, techniques, approaches work well for moving to AWS, and which do not
    3. Experience with moving CouchDB and Cassandra databases over to AWS is a plus
  3. Experience expressing "Infrastructure as Code”
    1. Using Hashicorp to provide common APIs. https://www.hashicorp.com/
    2. Goes beyond what Puppet can provide, although tools like Puppet are still needed.
  4. Needs to be "self-motivated”, especially with learning
    1. Don't have a lot of time to teach someone
    2. If there are things the person does not know, they need to seek-out their own answers
HTTP Knowledge
  • How connection protocol works
  • Solid working knowledge of how HTTP works
  • Knowledge of HTTP headers and payload is "nice to have”, not required
UNIX/LINUX background needed
